Memory Foam Mattress Topper Pads

If you don’t want to spend a couple thousand dollars, or more, for a complete memory foam mattress set, you can always go for second best: the memory foam mattress pad. Memory foam mattress pads have all the luxury and foamy goodness of a regular memory foam bed, just with a smaller price tag. These mattress toppers are ideal for making a too-firm bed more comfortable and more supportive. However, if you already have a bed that you consider to be too soft, a memory foam mattress pad will not ameliorate that situation, only exacerbate it.

Memory Foam Mattress Topper Pad

As with memory foam mattresses, there is a huge variety of mattress pads currently on the market. The memory foam rule stands: try it before you buy it. But this article will provide a little information as to what to expect and what’s currently on the market.

Healthy Foundations has perhaps one of the best reputations as a memory foam retailer and understandably so: their prices are competitive and they consistently manufacture high quality products. Their mattress pad consists of 2- or 3-inch thick, 4-pound density foam that spans the entire length and width of the bed (most other pads fall short by a couple inches on each side). Healthy Foundations offers an optional waterproof, allergy-free cover with their memory foam mattress pads. A queen-sized 2-inch pad costs about $175 ($225 with the cover) while a 3-inch thick pad runs approximately $220 ($270 with the cover).

Isoform is another manufacturer that has received good reviews for their quality of service and products. They, too, offer both covered and non-covered memory foam mattress pads; though their covers are not waterproof. Isoform’s mattress toppers range from 2- to 4-inches thick and have 5-pound density foam. A covered mattress pad ranges in price from about $150 to $260. A memory foam mattress pad without the cover costs approximately $110 to $220, depending on the thickness of the topper.

Bragada’s memory foam mattress pads up the ante just a little: they offer 5.3-pound density foam in a range of 2- to 4-inch thickness. They offer three models: the traditional model ranges in price from $210 to $300 for a queen-sized; the ventilated model, which boasts a superior air flow system and comes only in 4-inch thickness, costs approximately $425; and the quilted model, which consists of a quilted and covered mattress pad, runs about $450.

Finally, on the very upper end of memory foam mattress pads, is Tempur-Pedic. Their mattress pads are also 5.3-pound density, but they only come in a 3-inch thickness. The price tag is a little frightening, with a queen-sized memory foam mattress pad costing approximately $890. Also, this product is labeled as a ‘travel’ commodity (perhaps for those consumers who must have luxury with them at all times). But buyer beware - they offer no trial period; so if you don’t like it, too bad, so sad.

While this list is certainly not exhaustive, and there are many more varieties of memory foam mattress pads to be found all over the Internet, keep a couple items in mind: the higher density the foam, the firmer the foam will be and the longer the foam’s life will be; secondly, some mattress pads boast cheap price tags, but this can be because they only have a half-inch of memory foam. So – happy shopping and even happier sleeping!
