Memory Foam Shoes

Once upon a time, someone lay down on a memory foam mattress and had the idea, “Why don’t they make slippers out of this stuff?” That person is presumably now a millionaire as memory foam has made the migration from household item to clothing item. Memory foam slippers provide all the benefits of a memory foam mattress, but the key point here is that you can reap these benefits all of the time and not simply when you’re sleeping.

Memory Foam Shoes

When looking to buy memory foam slippers, you’re better off if you get at least 5-pound density foam. Not only will this provide more support to your feet, but the foam will also last longer. In addition, look for slippers that have relatively thick soles that will help to support the foam. Memory foam slippers help to alleviate pressure points in the feet because they conform to the foot’s shape, regardless of what shape that may be. These slippers are also touted as having great stress relieving qualities because of their extreme comfort.

Memory foam slippers, like mattresses and many other memory foam products, are easy to find and can be bought from a number of retailers. Here is a brief sampling of brands, prices, and what you get for your money. Starting at the higher-priced versions of memory foam slippers are the Acorn and the Hammacher Schlemmer brands. The Acorn memory foam slippers range in price from $45 to $70. Most of the Acorn line comes in sheepskin, ankle-high ruffs, and indoor-outdoor soles. (As a matter of fact, nearly all of the memory foam slippers out there have indoor-outdoor soles, so I will neglect to mention it from here on out and consider it simply a standard feature.) The Hammacher Schlemmer memory foam slippers cost approximately $45. These slippers, however, are down filled, have a nylon outer shell, suede sidewalls, and a weatherproof outsole. They look like they’d be warm; but they’re also the most ridiculous-looking pair of slippers I’ve ever seen (think Mickey Mouse type shoes).

One tiny step below these are the slippers made by HoMedics, Healthy Back, and Madison Place. The HoMedics slippers provide wearers with a battery-powered massage in addition to the memory foam and cost about $40. Healthy Back’s memory foam are simple, blue velour slippers that run about $40 to $60, when not on sale. Madison Place offers spa-type slippers that look like flip-flops made out of terry cloth. Their slippers are also about $40.

Finally, on the low-end of memory foam slippers are those made by ComfortPedic, Avon, and Body Trends. All of the slippers look remarkably similar as they’re made out of velour, are unisex, and have the thick, indoor/outdoor soles. They are all comparably prices at $15 to $20.

The sad news is that manufacturers have yet to create a memory foam slipper that is aesthetically pleasing. But on the bright side, if you’re relaxing at home, attractive footwear is probably the last thing on your mind. Memory foam slippers were created, after all, for their comfort and not their style.
