Memory Foam Pet Beds

You may not be all about giving your dog or cat a day at the spa where he or she can have a massage and a pedicure, and you may not be one of those people who insists on dressing your dog up in frilly, pink outfits. But even though you may not cater to this sort of pampering, buying your pooch a memory foam pet bed may be one luxury item to seriously consider. Providing your canine friend with a memory foam bed is a sort of preventative treatment method, especially if you have a larger dog or a breed that is prone to certain maladies. Many of the larger-breed dogs often develop conditions like hip dysplasia, arthritis, or other joint problems. It makes sense: if you had to sit on the hard floor all the time, your joints would probably bother you, too. Buying a memory foam dog bed can help to reduce the chance that your dog will develop these problems or if your dog already experiences some pain, memory foam can help to lessen it. Memory foam dog beds, just like people beds, alleviate pressure points and often result in deeper, more restful sleep. However, just like the memory foam beds for people, the pet beds carry a heftier price tag.

Memory Foam Pet Bed

Most of the memory foam pet beds on the market are either 4- or 5-pound density. In addition, nearly all of the pet beds out there come with removable, washable, zippered liners. Sometimes these liners are waterproof, odor and mildew-resistant, and hypoallergenic. These items vary between manufacturers, though, as does the variety of bed covers from which you can choose.

Buddy Beds carries perhaps the best selection of memory foam pet beds (for both dogs and cats). They use 2 inches of 5-pound density memory foam, and either 3 or 4 inches of support foam in their pet beds and have a large selection of sizes, both rectangular and round, and many styles of bed covers. The beds range in price from $239 for the smallest size to $279 for the largest size. The dog beds that come from All Dog Beds (aptly titled) have a wider selection of bed thicknesses, ranging from 4 inches to 8 inches. The 8-inch thick bed only has 3 inches of memory foam in it, though. They, too, have a decent selection of bed covers and sizes and their prices range from $119 up to $319. Petmate sells a completely no-thrills memory foam pet bed. They have only one size, but it is mold and mildew resistant for the modest price $60.

For the more label-conscious consumer, though, Orvis carries memory foam pet beds. Their beds come in all sorts of shapes, including mini-couches, and have a variety of extra features, like heated memory foam or their carbon-impregnated memory foam that is supposed to eliminate orders. All these extra features mean that Orvis’ prices will be slightly higher, ranging from $123 for the bare minimum memory foam pet bed to $590 for the largest and most deluxe pet bed.

Essentially, buying your dog a memory foam bed will be an investment. But in the long run, it is all but guaranteed to provide a happier and better life for your favorite four-legged, furry friend.
